International NGO coalition condemns Malaysian dam plans

Conference:
NHSMUN 2012

Hey guys, check out these recent articles! An international NGO coalition that includes organizations from the US, Norway and Switzerland is supporting Malaysian protests against the construction of twelve hydroelectric dams in the Malaysian state of Sarawak on Borneo. The NGO coalition supports Malaysian groups’ demand for an immediate halt to the realization of these dams, which threaten to displace tens of thousands of Sarawak natives and flood hundreds of square miles of Sarawak’s precious tropical rainforests.

Environmental NGOs Base in Singapore

Conference:
NHSMUN 2012

Hello delegates! The conference is VERY soon, and I'm getting more and more excited each day! Just a quick announcement to make things clear, since I've been getting some emails about this- in NGO Forum, you are NOT representing the nation that your school is representing! You are solely representing your NGO on an international scale. So, let's say you got assigned the NGO Green Cross International, and your school represents China. You will NOT be representing China at all, but rather the global NGO Green Cross International. Got it?

Environmental NGOs' Influence on "Fracking" Regulations

Conference:
NHSMUN 2012

January 11, 2012 marked the close of the public comment period on New York's environmental impact study and proposed regulations for horizontal hydraulic fracturing, or gas drilling also known as "fracking." Although there has not yet been an official tally, it is expected that more than 30,000 comments were submitted to the Department of Environmental Conservation. This astounding, and certainly record-breaking, number of comments confirms that fracking remains the highest profile environmental issue facing the state, and one about which significant concerns persist.

Welcome to NGO Forum!

Conference:
NHSMUN 2012

Hello delegates! My name is Cathy Yam, and it’s the greatest pleasure to be the director of NGO Forum for NHSMUN 2012. To introduce myself, I am a sophomore at Cornell University majoring in Industrial and Labor Relations and minoring in Spanish. I am from East Brunswick, New Jersey, which is near New York City, and I definitely try to visit the City whenever I can, since it’s my favorite place to be. This is my fifth year at NHSMUN and second year staffing, so I am without a doubt very passionate about the conference.

NGOs in Egypt Adjust to Turmoil

Conference:
NHSMUN Committee

Although several NGOs have voiced their support for the Egyptian protests against Hosni Mubarak, other humanitarian NGOs expressed their concern for the welfare of Egyptian citizens. Save the Children, for example, said on 3 February 2011 that children are put in danger during the protests. "The combination of a highly charged atmosphere, rival political protesters, and weapons on the streets puts children in grave danger," said Jane Gibreel, Save the Children's country director in Egypt.

NGOs' Standpoints on Egyptian Protests
