The Republic of Costa Rica is located in Central America in between the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea bordering with Nicaragua and Panama. With a total area of 51,100 square feet it is known for its agriculture, that relies in great extent, on the production of bananas and coffee. In the recent decades, its economic activities have expanded to technology and tourism. It is a democratic republic that gained independence from Spain on September 15, 1821. The State is divided into an executive, legislative and a judicial branch. With a population of 4,8 million people, Costa Rica stands out for being a country with no armed forces.
