India (officially the Republic of India) is a country in South Asia. With a population of 1.3 billion people, it is the world’s largest democracy, and the fourth largest economy in the world. With an area of 3,287,264 km2, it is the 7th largest country in the world. It is bordered by Pakistan in the north-west, China and Nepal in the north, Bhutan and Bangladesh in the north-east, Myanmar in the east and Sri Lanka in the south. The country became independent from British Rule in 1947.
