Indonesia (officially the Republic of Indonesia) is a country in Southeast Asia between the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. It is an island nation located near Malaysia, The Phillippines, Australia, and Papua New Guinea. It has a population of roughly 254 million people and an area of approximately 2 million square kilometers. Indonesia proclaimed its independence on August 17, 1945, after colonial influence from the Netherlands and Japan.
