The Republic of Kenya is a large nation of 45 million people located in central-east Africa, with its capital in Nairobi. It is bordered by Ethiopia and South Sudan to the north, Uganda to the west, Tanzania to the south, and Somalia to the east, and it spans about 580,000 square kilometers (about five times the size of Ohio). Kenya gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1963, and it became a representative government with a bicameral legislative branch and an executive branch with a president and a cabinet. The current president of Kenya is Uhuru Kenyatta, voted into power in April, 2013.
