Moldova is officially known as the Republic of Moldova. It is located in Eastern Europe, and shares borders with Romania and Ukraine. Moldova gained independence in 1991, at the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Moldova is a republic, with a unicameral Parliament system in place. Moldova has a population of 3,583,288, consisting of Moldavians, Ukrainians, Russians, Gagauzians, Romanians, and Bulgarians. Moldova is also one of only a few countries that uses its official full name, the Republic of Moldova, for UN voting.
