Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is an island country within the eastern Caribbean Sea, and is comprised of the Saint Vincent Island the the northern set of Grenadine Islands. The islands bounced around under the hands of different colonizers, moving from UK control to a separate administrative unit of the Federation of the West Indies. The islands finally received autonomy in 1969 and then independence in 1979.
