Bordering the North Atlantic Ocean, between French Guiana and Guyana, the Republic of Suriname is located in Northern South America. On November 25, 1975, Suriname received independence from the Netherlands and has recognized November 25th has a national holiday every year following. Its legal system, inspired by the Dutch, is a constitutional democracy with universal suffrage granted to all citizens over the age of 18.
