Tuvalu (formerly known as Ellice Islands) is an island nation in Polynesia, located in the Pacific Ocean, midway between Hawaii and Australia. Its nearest neighboring countries are Kiribati, Nauru, Samoa and Fiji. With a total area of 26 squared kilometers and a population of 9,876, it is the fourth smallest country in the world and the third least populous.
