Viet Nam is officially known as the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam. It is located in South East Asia and borders Laos, China, and Cambodia in addition to the Gulf of Thailand, Gulf of Tonkin, and then South China Sea. Viet Nam has a population of 93,421,835, making it the 15th most populated country in the world. Though Viet Nam gained independence after World War II, French forced continued to rule until 1954. Under the 1954 Geneva Accords, Viet Nam was divided into North and South Viet Nam. In 1975, the two countries were united into one communist state.
