UN General Assembly Elects Abdulla Shahid, Foreign Minister of the Maldives, as next President

Abdulla Shahid, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Maldives, has been elected as President of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly. Secretary-General António Guterres stated that “Abdulla Shahid’s longstanding diplomatic experience, including in his current role as Minister of Foreign Affairs, has given him a deep understanding of the importance of multilateralism in addressing today’s global challenges,” noting that his background as a leader of a small island developing State will be crucial in anticipation of the UN climate conference, COP26, later this year.

We are very excited to see the direction in which the President-elect will steer the General Assembly, as his priorities will dramatically shape the debates that take place at NHSMUN 2022 and beyond!
